Everything Revealed at Magic Con Vegas - Reality Fracture, The Hobbit, and The Vision of Marvel Super Heroes

There and Back Again, Again - The Hobbit
Kicking off the preview panel, we saw Annie Sardelis and Nick Marcantel roll out our return to Middle-earth. This time we’re following the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, and Thorin’s company on their quest to reclaim their home, the Lonely Mountain. With The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth making its Magic: The Gathering debut in 2023, we are now seeing the fan-favourite setting make its return with a full release date on August 14th.
The first thing we saw was that the Adventure would be returning as one of the primary mechanics of the set. From humble beginnings to epic journeys, this both mechanically and thematically fits Bilbo’s joining of the company and journeying to the Lonely Mountain. Probably one of the cards that showcases this journey the best is Bilbo, Luckwearer, who beautifully exemplifies Bilbo’s skills as the company’s thief. He expertly takes from others, can’t be dealt damage, and loots when he deals damage.

The Dragon’s Hoard
Every set brings with it newer and fancier alternate art versions, and Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit is no different. With Smaug and his hoard as a central point of contention, we see this come to life in the brand-new Dragon Hoard Frame art treatment. Meant to evoke Smaug’s massive pile of treasure, we know there will be 25 of these special frames.
Bringing The Pages To Life
We also saw artwork that evoked the essence of classic literature and paperback books from the 1970s and 1980s. There are a total of 10 cards in the set that were given this nostalgic art treatment, featuring J.R.R. Tolkien’s name front and centre on each one.
King Under The Mountain
Of course, there will always be THE chase card of the set, and what better chase card would there be than the King Under The Mountain himself. Smaug, the Magnificent, embodies his golden hoard in this stunning classic rendition. With around 500 of them to be printed, this is something everyone will want to get their hands on.
Even More Treasure
Just like how Elvish took the spotlight in Tales of Middle-earth, we are now receiving Dwarvish Language cards. We got a sneak peek at Arcane Signet in Dwarvish during the presentation. Alongside that are two cycles of Full-Art lands. We saw the Journey lands that showcase Bilbo and company travelling across Middle-earth, as well as the Shire Seasonal Lands, where it all began. These seasonal lands are only available as Plains and are exclusively found in Prerelease Packs, Bundles, and Gift Bundles.
More Treasure Than You Know What To Do With
Just like with other Universes Beyond sets, there are countless available products to suit whatever your needs. From veteran Magic: The Gathering players to newcomers who love The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, there is something for everyone. Regular Boxes come with stunning Box Toppers, including a brand new printing of The One Ring.
Outside of the usual Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, we have the previously mentioned Bundles that contain the Seasonal land cycle. We also see the return of the Draft Night product line, including all 12 Play Boosters and 1 Collector Booster as the intended “Prize Support”. It comes with all the lands and tokens you could ever need and instructions on how to run the draft event.
Scene Boxes also make a return, featuring some of the most iconic scenes from The Hobbit. We have “Crack the Plates” and “Treasures of Smaug”. Each of these boxes has 3 Play Boosters and 6 foil borderless scene cards that connect to form a larger connected image.
We cannot wait to see what the full set has in store and look forward to Prereleases starting from August 7th 2026, and the full release on August 14th.

Into The Echoverse - Reality Fracture
Probably the set most shrouded in mystery from last year’s road map of 2026, Reality Fracture seems to deliver on the hype that was created. The concept is great. Some of the greatest “what-if” questions will finally be answered.
The general setting of the set is one of tragedy and hope. Jace Beleren, troubled by the recent events of the Phyrexians, his hand in the devastation of the multiverse, and the several calamities that he’s witnessed, has devoted himself to creating an alternate reality where he attempts to “fix” everything, to stop these tragedies before they happen.
In this constructed world, he has rewritten several key characters. Lilliana no longer has the Chain Veil, but it is instead worn by Garruk. Chandra Nalaar now shares an affinity for ice rather than fire, and Ajani seems to be more enraged and aligned with red mana.
Every booster pack of Reality Fracture will contain two versions of the same character. One from the original multiverse, one from the Echoverse. The two appear at the same rarity, allowing players to immediately see for themselves how things have changed in Jace’s universe. Jace really embodies the idea that if you don’t die a hero, you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Back To School…Again? Hexhaven and the Five Schools
Fresh off our journey to Strixhaven and the surprise guest of a black mana-aligned Ral Zarek, we finally see where these inconsistencies come from. Finally, we are getting the five colour-paired schools that were noticeably absent from Strixhaven.
Reality Fracture introduced Hexhaven, Jace’s mirrored version of Strixhaven University. We have:
Fatehold (White/Blue): School of Future History
Theorix (Blue/Black): School of Esoteric Mathematics
Stingerquill (Black/Red): School of Painful Words
Konstrari (Red/Green): School of Constructive Arts
Vigorbloom (Green/White): School of Invasive Healing
Echoed Card Treatments
Much like the fractured glass of a shattered mirror, Reality Fracture comes with the brand-new Shattered Mirror art treatment. We see the beautiful Stringcaster Mage, a card many will immediately notice is much like another iconic Magic: The Gathering card, Snapcaster Mage. These alternate reality versions feature beautiful shards of glass with glimpses into the original artwork while still highlighting the new version.
And of course, with Strixhaven and Emeritus of Ideation, we saw the headliner card include Ancestral Recall as the prepared spell. It’s good to know that even in alternate timelines, there is an Echoverse version of Mark Poole creating magnificent headliner artwork, full of their own version of Ancestral Recall.
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes - Marvel Super Heroes
The last section of the preview panel dealt with the upcoming release of the newest set, Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes. This is one of the biggest crossovers yet, and it is arriving extremely soon. With the full set release on June 26th, we still know very little about what the mechanics are, which characters we’ll see exactly. However, we were treated to a couple of preview cards and one amazing surprise.
Starting the preview, we saw two renditions of Vision: The Vision and Vision, Synthezoid Avenger. Each of these really displayed the amount of thought that went into the set design, with mechanics that really aim to thematically translate each hero’s superpowers into Magic: The Gathering mechanics.
Of course, we couldn’t talk about Vision without mentioning his signature weapon, The Mind Stone. The second in the Infinity Stone cycle of cards, we were now only shown the headliner, but Vision actor Paul Bettany himself appeared on stage to give his thoughts and add the stone to the Infinity Gauntlet.
With full previews expected to begin in the weeks leading up to the official set release, we can’t wait to see what other iconic superheroes Wizards of the Coast has in store, and to celebrate this amazing set with all of you at Magic Spotlight Series: Brussels.
An Action-Packed Summer
Looking back at the preview panel, there was so much exciting news all at once. There are several amazing art treatments in our return to Middle-earth, including vintage paperback cards, Dwarvish language cards, and the extra golden dragon. The diverse product line-up of Reality Fracture and the hint of the new Secret Lair Bundle. And the upcoming action hero summer with Marvel Super Heroes has us wondering just what can’t Magic: The Gathering do with their game?
What else can we expect? The panel did not discuss anything related to the Star Trek Universe Beyond set, but we can hope for that reveal at an upcoming event. All in all, this looks to be quite the eventful year for Magic: The Gathering. If you want to see the full preview panel, you can watch it here, and as we learn more about the upcoming sets, we will do our best to keep you updated as well.
