Magic: The Gathering | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - An Early Look At The Newest Universes Beyond Set

Shell-Shocked Strategy - Mastering the Mechanics
Strike From The Shadows – Sneak
Embrace the shadows and stealth with the brand new keyword Sneak. Embody the turtles as they strike when you least expect it. Mechanically, Sneak functions similarly to the original ninja mechanic of Ninjutsu. Sneak is an alternate casting cost that you can use only during the declare blockers step , after blockers have been declared, during combat on your own turn. If you cast a spell for its sneak cost, it has the same timing restrictions as an instant, so you can respond to other spells with spells that have sneak, even if they normally could not be used at instant speed.
Let’s take a look at Donatello, Gadget Master. Normally he has a mana value of 3, however if one of your creatures isn’t blocked, you can play Donatello for his sneak cost. After your opponent has declared blockers, state you are going to play Donatello for his sneak cost, return an unblocked creature you control to your hand and pay Donatello’s sneak cost of one mana and a blue mana. Donatello enters the battlefield tapped and attacking. This is a great way to almost guarantee triggers for combat damage when an opponent would normally block. This is also a great way to get higher cost creatures for cheaper.
The great thing about Sneak is that it’s not only limited to creatures. Donatello’s Technique and Kitsune’s Technique both have Sneak and require you to return an unblocked creature to your hand, however you get powerful effects for a fraction of the cost instead of a larger unit tapped and attacking. This mechanic is definitely a thematic win, rewarding precise timing, planning, and sequencing, while also forcing you to be wary of what tricks your opponent may have up their sleeves.
And Disappear Again – Disappear
Not only do ninjas strike from the shadows, but often enough they vanish back into them just as fast as they appeared. Disappear is a new ability word to represent an ability that triggers if a permanent that was under your control left the battlefield this turn. This won’t only check since the card was played, but will check the entire turn, even before the card with Disappear was played. If you played a spell with Sneak, for example and returned a creature to your hand, and then later in the turn played Rat King, Verminister, Rat King’s disappear ability would still trigger.
The Ooze Evolves – Mutagen
The turtles aren’t just ninja, they’re mutants too! The mutagen that gave the turtles their power now comes to Magic: The Gathering as a brand new token. Mutagen Tokens are an artifact token that for one mana, tapping and sacrificing the token, you can put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. While seemingly simple at first, like all tokens this feeds heavily into artifact synergies, token synergies, and of course +1/+1 counter synergies.
Strength in Brotherhood – Alliance
If there’s anything Master Splinter has taught the turtles, it’s that strength comes from working together. Alliance is a returning ability word that represents when an ability of a creature should trigger when another creature you control enters. Get a few creatures with Alliance out there and watch as you get compounding value for every creature that enters under your control.
School is in Session – Classes
The popular enchantment type is returning yet again, representing the growth each of the turtles have experienced over the years, and their niche specialties that make them such a wonderful team.
Class cards have separate text boxes, each with new abilities that unlock as you progress through the card. Let’s take a look at Cool but Rude. When you cast Cool but Rude you simply pay the mana cost in the top right. The enchantment comes into play and you have the effect of the first text box. To unlock the next abilities, you will need to, as a sorcery, pay the next level’s mana cost. Once you do you have that tier of ability forever, or until the card leaves play. You cannot skip levels, and must progress in order through to level 3 if you wish. You also do not lose the abilities of the previous levels as you “level up”
You are able to control multiple classes, even multiples of the same exact card. However, you must level each individually. If you have 2 Cool but Rudes in play, you will have to level each one up individually.

Heroes in a Half Shell - Bringing The Legends to Life
Of course, where would the set be without the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themselves? Each of the four turtles make an appearance in the set as a legendary creature, and not only that, but they appear in every rarity as well. Each of the brothers showcase their signature skills, with mechanics that translate into the gameplay itself.
The turtles couldn’t save the city on their own; however, they have an amazing cast of supporting characters and allies to help them on their journey. Master Splinter, Casey Jones, and April O’Neil join up to help take down even the most threatening of villains.
And we can’t have the turtles without some of their most iconic enemies and villains. Shredder, Karai, Krang, and so many more are here to take down the turtles once and for all.
From Sewers to Sunday Morning Cartoons - Amazing Artwork and Design
The world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has decades of stunning art work, pop culture design, and references across all forms of media. This is showcased in the various art treatments, so that fans of the franchise can relive the history of the turtles from whatever medium they wish. We have artwork going all the way back to their very first appearance. Drawn by the co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles himself, Kevin Eastman created the artwork for the four very special and very rare Headliner cards. Each card features an engraved signature from Kevin Eastman.
For fans of the arcade games, we have amazing pixel designs, definitely evoking feelings of nostalgia from when you would visit the arcade with your friends.
For those who want to lurk in the shadows, and appreciate the stealthier aspects of ninjas, or those who just want to aura farm, we have the stunning border-less silhouette art treatment.
For the fans of the original comics who love the art style, we have the return of the source material treatment. There are amazing reprints and staples using some of the most iconic artwork from the history of TMNT.
The iconic Japan Eclipse Showcase treatment also makes a return, appearing in both normal and fracture foil.
Just like we saw in Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender and several other universes beyond sets, some scenes are just too great for a single card to hold. Scene Cards are also available across all booster products so you can bling out those binders and create stunning displays.
Choose Your Weapon - Products and Ways to Play
There are several supplementary products for TMNT. One of which is probably one of the best ways to get your friends into Magic for the first time, coop! The brand new Turtle Team-Up box has you playing with up to three of your friends against a boss deck. Now you can look on and share strategies, and teach the game all while playing against a challenging encounter.
Once you get the hang of the game, or strive for more head to head combat, the Draft Night box comes back, full of boosters for 4 players, an additional collector booster, and 90 lands. Everything you need to play the Pick Two draft format with friends. Everything except perhaps… pizza?
Instead of a regular gift bundle, we have the brand new Pizza Bundle, celebrating the turtle’s love for pizza that they’re known for. These Pizza Bundles offer booster packs, a decorative D20, and include some special pizza themed lands. That’s not all! You also have some great pizza themed artwork exclusive to these bundles.
For the Commander players out there, we have Turtle Power, the TMNT commander deck of the set. And of course, with teamwork being one of the main themes of the franchise, alongside the face commander of all four turtles on one card, we have the four turtles and Master Splinter as alternate commanders. Each of them have Partner – Character Select, meaning you can pair each of them up with each other for any number of combinations. Keep in mind however that if you want to play this deck out of the box and want to change commanders, Leonardo, the Balance will have to be one of your commanders as he is the only 5-colored creature among them, fitting for the designated leader of the turtles.
Cowabunga Dudes!
With stealthy combat tricks, board-building synergy, and just the right amount of mutagen-fueled chaos, Magic: The Gathering | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is shaping up to be more than a crossover. We’re seeing a full-fledged Magic experience wrapped in a half shell. Whether you’re brewing around Sneak, stacking Mutagen counters, or sleeving up your favorite turtle in Commander, there’s plenty here to explore.
With pre-release events starting February 27 and running through March 5, 2026, and the official launch on March 6, we can hardly wait to start cracking our packs. Sharpen your blades, stock up on pizza, and get ready for the sewers open, it’s turtle time.
