Disney Lorcana Challenge Birmingham concluded Season 1 of the Disney Lorcana Challenge series. As we begin moving towards the European Championships in December, let’s have a look at three Disney Lorcana Challenges and recap how it all went down: Disney Lorcana Challenge Bochum, Bologna, and Birmingham.
The Disney Lorcana Challenge in Bochum was the second European Disney Lorcana Challenge and we were so excited for the large turnout – so much so that we added an entire extra day to the event. Thousands of players and spectators alike came to Ruhr Congress Bochum to compete in the first European Lorcana Challenge in the Ursula’s Return metagame. Once again, we had a vast array of side events, shops, and spectacles for Illumineers of all ages.
Upon entering the event hall we saw the literal pillars of Disney Lorcana: a beautiful instalment of a Lorebook on a pedestal surrounded by shining marble pillars and visages of iconic Disney characters formed the centrepiece of the entrance hall. Near the front, we had our fully decked out prize wall with cards, display pieces, and merchandise of all shapes and sizes. If you wanted to get your hands on one of the prestigious alternate art Rapunzels or Cinderellas, or even Disney Lorcana clothing paraphernalia, now was your chance.
We even had our own dedicated hall exclusively for side events, with a stage full of organisers hard at work to make sure even if you were not participating in the three-day main event, you could have fun playing all manners of Disney Lorcana and other Disney games all weekend long.
Once we entered the main event hall, we saw a sea of tables expanding as far as the eye can see. At all times during the day, we had players jamming games and aiming to become the best of the best and earn the title of Disney Lorcana Challenge Champion. Back in the main entrance lobby, we had vendors once again peddling all manners of cards, from staples to put into your decks to more enchanted than anyone could dream of.
A large side events hall was dedicated to making sure that all weekend long players had a home to play to their heart’s content and connect with whomever was present at the event. Just by the side event area, we were joined by Jochem van Gool, the extraordinarily talented artist behind some of Disney Lorcana’s most including Rapunzel Gifted with Healing, Chernabog Evildoer, and two of the three musketeers Goofy and Mickey.
Finally, making its opening on Sunday, we had the feature match area – a place to grab a seat and a bite to eat, kick up your feet, and watch the titans of Disney Lorcana battle it out on the big screen. Here, Illumineers of all ages gather to watch the best of the best, either in between their own rounds or between their side events. There was plenty to do at the Disney Lorcana Challenge Bochum, and we were just getting started.
The Disney Lorcana TCG continued their Challenge circuit in Italy, where we had a packed convention center again! If you were in Bologna, get ready to be nostalgic with us or if you weren’t, check out how it all went down,
Along with the vendors in the inner circle of tables, we met special guest Giulia Riva, artist extraordinaire, who had her own stand at the venue. Each day, Giulia welcomed all Illumineers to the stand to have a beautiful poster and some of their favourite cards made out to them or a loved one.
Surrounding the vendors and artist sections, we saw the endless sea of tables filled with challengers vying for their shot at the prestigious golden Mickey Mouse card. With seats for over 2000 players in the main Disney Lorcana Challenge and space for nearly 500 more players, the event hall was bustling.
Near the front of the hall, you could find the event’s prize wall. Ensuring that everyone walked away with something, each side event awarded prize tix that could be redeemed for a variety of Disney Lorcana merchandise. Have you ever wanted to flex a Disney Lorcana T-Shirt, or sport one of those fancy caps? Or maybe you’ve wanted to try your hand at getting the prestigious Cinderella foil playmat or one of the fancy promo cards. All this and more was possible at the Disney Lorcana Challenge Prize b.
Finally, we had a small look behind the scenes with the coverage team who brought you the best Disney Lorcana content you could ask for, including live streams of some of the most exciting matches in the feature match area. Here, players witnessed the absolute highest level of gameplay while having it presented by some of the most talented casters.
For the Disney Lorcana Challenge in Birmingham, we found ourselves at the National Exhibition Center (NEC). It was an amazing venue with all the amenities any Illumineer could ever need. The Great Illumianry continues to be a symbol of the Disney Lorcana community.
Right beside The Great Illuminary, we had special guest artist Kenneth Anderson, creator of the art behind Minnie Mouse – Always Classy, Clarabel – Clumsy Guest, and Madam Mim – Elephant.
Inkland merchants and traders set up their stands across the venue, providing cards and collectables for anyone looking to spice up their decks before the main event, or even find the final cards to complete their collection.
Over 1000 tables were set up to accommodate seating for everyone we expected to see at Disney Lorcana Challenge Birmingham. Not only was the main event packed with over 2000 challengers, but we also had a full schedule of side events and on-demand events for all the attendees looking to sit down and sling cards with their friends.
After nine rounds of Swiss play on Saturday and five rounds of single elimination in the top 64 on Sunday, we came to the final match of Disney Lorcana Challenge Birmingham. Federico Mecozzi Marinangeli piloted the popular Ruby/Sapphire Sisu on Ice deck, facing off against Jonathan Patini who piloted the up-and-coming Amethyst/Emerald deck. Being the higher-seated player in the Swiss rounds, Federico decided to begin the best-of-three match going first.
After two hard-fought games, Federico Mecozzi Marinangeli finally emerged victorious and was crowned the Champion of Disney Lorcana Challenge Birmingham.
